The Sandwich – The Secret Sodium Bomb

Most individuals already know that eating too much sodium can cause bloating, high blood pressure and some other health concerns. What you may be surprised to learn is that the sandwich takes up 50% of the recommended daily allowance. A recent study that was published in the Journal of the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics found that on any given day 49% of average American adults eat at least one sandwich. The 2010 dietary guidelines recommend that adults consume no more than 2300 mg of sodium per day. Individuals with existing heart concerns, such as diabetes or high blood pressure, should consume no more that 1500 mg of sodium per day. Can you guess what the average sodium intake of Americans is?
